Day 11: Bees

I’ve been dreaming of creatures

Sheep, pigs, giraffes,

dolphins, penguins

Cat crying, cows lowering, flocks flying.

Then I saw a swarm of bees in a headlong rush

hover over flowers

I’ve been dreaming of colonies of wasps

All stripped and beautiful stings

Huge as Gulliver’s tall tales.

They’ve been stalking the crop of blackberries

Strawberries and summer fruits

Their whiskers all sticky humming like pianos

strumming like guitars,

Their song buzzed me awake in the yellow light of dawn

shadows dancing on the curtains

The day has been as hot as barbeques

Big bodied bees have been darting in and out of tulips

As alive as me and you.
