Here’s a sonnet,  this follows the prompt for day six on the NAPOWRIMO site’s (which we are signed up to) suggestion of musical ekphrasis, in this case I was thinking of Buddy Holly’s Maybe Baby:

Maybe Baby.

You are tall and tired from the train, we talk of quaint Ely station

That shared passing place between my home county and yours
I have to finish your second pint of that rather standard German beer
We try to make out the band names on the cassettes
preserved in Perspex: a false, silent musical window,
we see off-white washing on balconies I have missed the two years
I have rented this cracked wall flat, I feed you from the fridge
the cous cous salad I had half of with halloumi for dinner
And we sleep, no, you sleep, as you grasp my foot
between your ankles and pull my body the branch length of yours

and that old odd anxiety of a body in my bed

brings on insomnia, while you sleep peaceful

liking my bed, liking my body.
