Day 15: NAPOWRIMO

This was written with napowrimo’s suggestion in mind http://www.napowrimo.net/2011/04/day-15/ to this end I have written a sonnet (again one of my broken sonnets) about insomnia:

Insomnia

I always have a wall of books by my bed

Anything to trick Morpheus

Spines cracked, foxed atop proud hardbacks, dust jackets intact

Thin sharp volumes of F Scott Fitzgerald Short stories

Jean Rhys’ Good Morning Midnight, as misery loves company

A burglar bashing DH Lawrence compendium,

only Lady Chatterly’s Lover read,

for the umpteenth time

I envy those who sleep easy:

Cats, my step dad

The cat who sleeps atop my step dad

Her curled on his stomach blending into his jumper

uninvited for these naps so he says

Though he left the door ajar.
