Day 3: NaPoWriMo

Still on the theme of ekphrasis I thought I’d work on a poem inspired by Francesca Woodman’s photographs. The eerie rooms of her shots remind me of George Szirtes houses, the psychology of a house is scary stuff.

*Untitled*

Leave your self, behind the door

that doesn’t quite shut;

swing it to till it creaks,

the wood’s seam cracked

and the house pulls itself in,

gathers itself around you.

You bend at the waist and feel

a smoothing out, in the eye

you are a curve

a zero body.

You are an ear to the beat

of a heart hidden

in your chest.

The self of you multiples

in the shadows.
