This is a mix of a L’Oreal hair advert, first line is a direct quote, then you will obviously recognise lines from Shakespeare’s sonnet 18. Call it a parody of a sonnet, if you will. It is a ten line rip off, really.
I didn’t want to say men in the last couplet, it seemed too directional, I’m not saying its men you know, just life. I took some inspiration from this article to do with airbrushing in L’Oreal’s ads. This happened last year as well, check out my last entries for napowrimo last year and it’s all about women and corsets, I don’t know.
This shade is not made to fade,
these promises you make;
Thy eternal summer shall not fade,
for you will be digitally enhanced.
Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade
We can delete the grey from your hair.
When in eternal lines to time thou growest….
We will retouch, you shall be shined and wrinkle free.
So long as we can breathe or eyes can see,
I’ll be watching L’Oreal tell me we’re worth it.
