Rosie Garland and Stirred Poets did Disbury Arts Festival at the invitation of Baiba Auria on Thursday 27th June. It went smashingly well, despite the dreary rain outside and the soaked tennis players who wandered into the room occasionally to watch Wimbledon!
I thought I’d steal Baiba’s status where she gives her own, very poetic, mini review of the readers of the night:
‘Wow, what a great finale to my events for the festival!! A wonderful, inspiring and dizzying night. A big thank you to Stirred Poetry who structured the bones of the night so effectively and to the readers who put beautifully disturbing flesh on them: arrestingly alive and inspirational Rosie Garland, fragile yet vast Nixy West, illuminated traveller Marianne Daniels, moving and vivid Sarah Miller, riotous fun and sharp honesty from Carol Robson, fluid dream Rebecca Audra Smith and goosebump generating voice and words of Anna Percy. Also a big thank you to the fantastic audience and Albert Club.’ Baiba Auria.
The Albert Club was a lovely venue, like a warm cushion with tables. It was lovely to see the crowd gathering; the question and answer session of the night brought new answers from Rosie which was intriguing. It was interesting to hear which parts of the novel were in danger of being cut out which she strived to keep in.
Anna Percy sold some copies of Livid Among The Ghostings, and she is also performing at the Castlefield Gallery relaunch event which looks exciting.
In other news, looking forward to Blank Media’s project equals ‘exploring feminism through art and conversation’. Sounds perfect! 11th-28th July.
